When we asked you to tell us the Top HFS Songs of the Last Five Months of 2011, we also asked you to tell us why those songs were special to you. We got a ton of great comments, and we thought we’d share some of the great ones.

Foo Fighters “Rope”: This song is the core to the best, heaviest, most focused, and leanest foos record of their career. Cage the Elephant “Aberdeen”: A very catchy little song. Everything about this band fits WHFS’s style so well. Especially the HFS of mid 90s I adore. The Black Keys “Lonely Boy”: Because I feel like that guy in the video when I listen to this song. Happy and upbeat, its nice to hear the Keys rockin out. The play loud sticker on the package is not a suggestion- it’s a necessity to fully appreciate this album. — Chris

“Young Blood” and “Punching In A Dream” by The Naked and Famous, because I can feel the emotion in the song! — Daniel

“Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People. Very unique sound! — Scott

I’d have to give my credit to the guys from Middle Class Rut. With strong political lyrics and enough sound to make a full band blush, “Busy Bein’ Born” gets my vote. Those two guys make a TON of noise, and I caught wind of a AWOLNATION/MC Rut tour next year, sure to please. — Kevin

Jane’s Addiction “Irresistible Force” (JA is back), The Black Keys “Lonely Boy” ( I love that guy dancing, great upbeat tune), Foo Fighters “Rope” (great rock song, one of thier best), Red Hot Chili Peppers “Monarchy of Roses” (this one’s more like ’90s Chilis) , Foster the People “Helena Beat” (fun song, fave of the three), 311 “Sunset in July” (classic 311 sound). — Jake

Cake “Long Time”Bush “The Sound of Winter”Red Hot Chili Peppers “The Legend of Rain Dance Maggie”311 “Sunset in July” (my favorite), The Black Keys “Lonely Boy”. Classic HFS music.  Made me so glad you’re back. — Denise

Foster the People – “Pumped Up Kicks”…an awesome song by an up-and-coming band. The Black Keys – “Lonely Boy”…great song from one of the best bands out there. — Chris

“Pumped Up Kicks”…I defy you to get that song out of your head once you’ve heard it. Anything by Foster the People really, they’re just an awesome new band.  :) — Jeniye

“Sail” by AWOLNATION. The song gave a professional definition to the untamed territory of Dubstep. Should the world exactly  professionally done song of Dubstep should be made and what beats make a good Dubstep song. Revolutionary techniques set in motion because of “Sail” that will likely have a lasting impact on both the worlds of electric dance, rave, hip-hop, alt. rock, and techno. — Philip

Middle Class Rut’s “Busy Bein’ Born”. It’s something about that opening guitar riff that just gets you out of your seat. — Thomas

AWOLNATION “Sail”…absolutely my favorite song of the year. It has such a great beat and it was the first new song i heard on HFS when you returned so it was awesome to have you guys back and also have such a strong start to this new chapter. “Dark Horses” by Switchfoot…just because i love it and i still dont believe that it’s a switchfoot song. “Face to the Floor” by Chevelle…it’s another song i just get super excited to hear when it comes on. — Ashley

311 “Sunset In July”…best song to listen to the whole summer 2011. — Chris
