Rumors are abounding on whether singer-songwriter Fiona Apple may finally be releasing new material, after years of label wrangles. Her last album, Extraordinary Machine, appeared in 2005.

Her fans are known for being passionate, but how are Apple’s scrobbles looking seven years after her last release? Trends investigates.

fionatrend Trends: A New Release From Fiona Apple?

The graph above shows the past two years in weekly scrobbles, with a slightly erratic count ending up at just over the 40,000 mark for the past seven days. With 21,259,061 plays from 979,166 listeners overall, it’s clear that a peak could be much higher with a new release.

“Extraordinary Machine”, the title track from her last album, reaches #3 in her six-month chart, but it’s still her earliest material that holds the top spot. “Criminal” from 1996’s Tidal counts 1,192,660 scrobbles from 255,111 listeners, fourteen years after it won Apple a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
