[pullquote quote=”A band that would have been a headliner at the Fillmore East and Winterland in another era.” credit=”Howlin Rain”]If the closing moments of the 2012 GRAMMY Awards show were any indication, there is still a place in this country for guitar-driven blues rock. Closing out the telecast, [lastfm]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] led a shred-fest that saw [lastfm]Dave Grohl[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm] trading licks and building towards the show’s climax.

One group who should be glad to see such high-profile guitar work is [lastfm]Howlin Rain[/lastfm], a blues-based guitar rock band from Northern California who are truly keeping the faith alive with their tough-as-nails live show. This week [lastfm]Howlin Rain[/lastfm] releases its latest album The Russian Wilds, and you can stream it now right here.

[lastfm]Howlin Rain[/lastfm] isn’t new to the music scene, having been formed in 2004 by bandleader Ethan Miller. After a couple early albums, the band caught the attention of super-producer Rick Rubin who was instrumental in the creation of The Russian Wilds. Rubin and Miller share a powerful secret: the knowledge that American music fans truly love kick-ass rock and roll. Without any gimmicks, and without the help of autotune or blown-out hairdos, The Russian Wilds succeeds as a reminder of what rock can, and should, sound like.

There’s no time like the present to catch [lastfm]Howlin Rain[/lastfm] out on tour – find their upcoming tour dates here.
