Mumford And Sons Releasing Sophomore Album In September

Mumford and Sons will be releasing their sophomore album on September 24th announced keyboardist and vocalist Ben Lovett at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands this weekend.

The London-based neo-folk quartet have been working on the album with Sigh No More producer Markus Dravs since March 2011 and have promised the album will be an “evolution, not revolution.”

“But if we listen back while we’re mixing and discover it’s sh*t, we’ll just start again,” Lovett said in an interview. “We’re not going to put it out until it’s good enough.”

Known for testing their new songs about at performances, one of the supposed new songs on the upcoming album is a soft, sweetly melodic tune with a vaguely Death Cab For Cutie feel called the “Ghosts That We Knew.” Listen to it here.

In an interview with MTV last year, frontman Marcus Mumford also said the band would “keep going until it’s right” and that one way they test out songs is playing them live.

“We don’t really like to put any boundaries on it; we’ll keep going until it’s right,” Mumford said. “It’s definitely a different experience from the first one, as it should be, I think. But it’s been challenging in all the right ways. It’s going well.

“I think we just want the songs to be good, and to sound right, and to feel like we’ve expressed everything as straightforwardly and honestly as we can,” he continued. “And we’re working towards that.”

“When you play it to a new room, you’re playing it to new ears,” Mumford said about playing new songs live. “And you’re listening to the song through their ears. So it’s a really great way to feel the song out.”
