Linkin Park‘s new album, Living Things, has taken the Billboard Top 200 by storm, debuting at #1. But that doesn’t mean the band will be taking a break any time soon. Innovation has been the group’s calling card, and now they are taking that creativity in a bold new direction.

Linkin Park has always embraced a unique brand of music, yet as dense as their sound is, they continually deliver a live show that rivals the production quality of their studio recordings. Mike Shinoda credits this to a valuable piece of software he uses, Music OS from Open Labs, which he uses to generate the many synthesizer effects Link Park utilizes and deliver them seamlessly during live performances.

Now, through a collaboration with Dell and Open Labs, customers who purchase the special edition Dell XPS laptops and the 2320 All-in-One devices will have Music OS preloaded on their computers along with the custom-made sounds Linkin Park uses in their music. With it, musicians can “collaborate” with Linkin Park and share their songs online.

The decision to join forces with Dell and Open Labs was an easy one for Linkin Park, being that they have used the software for years. “It literally takes the place of 10 keyboards and samplers,” Shinoda explains to Rolling Stone. “Music OS is the best tool out there to organize and quickly access all my favorite sounds onstage, plus it can take a beating over the course of a rigorous tour.”

“Once that relationship started,” Shinoda continues, “the doors opened to create something that not only worked well for our band, but something our fans could create and perform with as well.”

Members of the Linkin Park Underground fan club get an additional bonus. They will receive exclusive content (such as custom drum kits, for example) for use in Music OS on a monthly basis.

Watch Shinoda talk more about the using Music OS and their collaboration with Dell in the video below.
