Today marks the release of P.O.D.‘s eighth studio album, Murdered Love. Since 1992, the San Diego based band has been dedicated to relatively hard guitar-based rock so it’s no surprise that when asked about today’s electronic dance music craze, frontman Sonny Sandoval is hopeful there’s an end in sight.

“I come from that old school where we paid dues, where you made the music because you love it and it’s just such a journey and experience,” explains Sandoval in an interview with CBS Local. “It just seems like nowadays daddy buys these guys a Mac computer and a Pro Tools system and then all of a sudden they look like these huge Hollywood stories.”

Sandoval continues, “I just don’t get it. I’m used to loading our gear into a club, driving to the next gig in a broken down van, selling t-shirts and discs out of the back of your van. It just seems that this [EDM] is such a business. Now this is hot, the guys are getting paid top dollar by the consumer and they’re just raping everyone for the moment, and then I think it will be done with.

I think it’s just gonna go back to just rock bands that are just real, at least that’s what I’m hoping for.

P.O.D.’s latest album titled Murdered Love will is available everywhere today.
