Los Angeles-based Youngblood Hawke might seem like your favorite local band-next-door, but the “We Come Running” hitmakers have a few surprises up their sleeves including what they wanted to be when they grew up, some unexpected covers, what their hip-hop nicknames would be, and whom they would like be back-up dancers for.
Let’s just say the provocative antics of certain pop superstar wouldn’t hold a shine to the carnal creeping of MC Such-and-Such.
The band, who is noted for their out-of-the-box hip-hop covers, say they like the “surprise element” the covers and that it’s “just cool to throw something totally different in the mix” to see the crowd’s reactions.
When asked what their hip-hop monikers would be (were they a totally different band), it was decided that frontman Sam Martin would have the honor of bestowing their stage names. Aliases like MC Shoulders and MC Erroneous were tossed around.
For Martin, there was no doubt what pop star he’d like to get closer to by “dancing up” on her.
While Simon Katz would go with Britney Spears because the “experience would be absolutely mad and crazy” and drummer Nik Hughes would tour with Justin Timberlake to show off his “hip-hop dance style meets hip-hop sensibility,” singer Alice Katz and Martin “would go with Rihanna.”
“Rihanna one hundred percent. Just ‘cuz that would get me that much closer,” said Martin amidst laughter from his bandmates. “She’s like, ‘You’re really creepy.'”
“‘Just doing my job,'” continued Martin. “You told me to be super sexual.'”
Youngblood Hawke’s self-titled début EP is now available on Universal Republic and single, “We Come Running,” is being offered as part of the iTunes free “Single of the Week” selection. Download it here.
