Watch Slightly Stoopid’s Reggae Funk Performance From Red Bull Sound Space

Every day at exactly the same time, homegrown herbalists celebrate their love for the sticky green gifts of the earth. Exactly at that time, 4:20pm to be precise, Slightly Stoopid and their fans filled the air with the vague perfume of green goodness while performing at the Red Bull Sound Space.

The bluesy reggae-fusion band from San Diego squeezed eight able bodies onto the stage–red solo cups in hand–with the express intent to get everybody in the venue feeling fresh.

For those unfamiliar with Slightly Stoopid, they might expect them to be some laid back beach bro reggae band, but with groovy funk riffs and a three-piece horn section, Slightly Stoopid come out swinging as a musically-diverse, genre-bending bunch.

Slightly Stoopid, who have made music since their self-titled début in 1996, just released their seventh studio album, Top of The World, on August 14th.  Despite flying in that morning from Salt Lake City, the audience could tell the boys were feeling “on top of the world” after the release of their 21-tune “baby maker,” as host Nicole Alvarez would describe.

The band played a grand total of eight songs including a cover of “Express Yourself” by Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and Dre from Fishbone–who donned a sexy t-shirt that had “Cigarettes and Whiskey” emblazoned across it–jumped onstage for some surprise rapping. Other songs included in the set were “Top of the World,” “Don’t Stop,” “Hold onto the One,” “We Don’t Want to Go,” “2AM,” and more.

If you want to check out the lively set (and see how the Slightly Stoopid fans turned off the air-conditioner with their merry-making), check out the videos here!
