After weeks of anticipation and teaser videos, EDM mega-star Deadmau5 has released the mind-boggling new UFC-themed video for his collaboration with My Chemical Romance‘s Gerard Way for the song “Professional Griefers,” taken from the forthcoming Deadmau5 full-length, Album Title Goes Here.
“I kind of connected with him on the level that he’s almost in the same position I am,” Deadmau5 explained to KROQ DJ Stryker during a recent exclusive interview. “He’s amid a sea of emo rock bands, you know what I mean? I’m in the middle of a sea of DJs and stuff like that, so we both had that connection. I felt it was a kind of cool collab, because we could both break out of that entirely and just do this one thing that was like our forces combined.”
The massive video, which is being called the most expensive EDM clip to date, features Deadmau5 and Way using DJ controllers to engage two giant Deadmau5 robots in battle before a crowd of more than 2000 rabid Deadmau5 fans as extras.
The clip was informed by Deadmau5’s love for classic video titles, particularly ’90s Japanese Nintendo title Chrono Trigger.
“There’s a robot called Gato, and he’s just like this tubby, kind of big fight-testing robot,” Deadmau5 told Stryker. “So you would go into an encounter in the game with this robot, and the robot would basically train you. I really wanted (the Deadmau5 robots) to have that look, be really clunky and post-apocalyptic.”
