Stone Temple Pilots’ “Core” Turns 20‏

On September 29th, 1992 George H. W. Bush was campaigning against Bill Clinton for the presidency, The Last of the Mohicans was the number one film, and Stone Temple Pilots released their debut album Core. The quintessential STP album went on to sell over 8 million copies and reach #3 on the Billboard 200 charts on the strength of the singles “Sex Type Thing,” “Plush,” and “Creep.”

While audiences embraced STP and Core, the initial response from critics was mixed at best with many drawing parallels to grunge icons like Pearl Jam. STP however got the last laugh through huge sales and winning the MTV VMA for Best New Artist.

After a very tumultuous 20 years, STP is back together and recently finished a headlining tour of North America and released their first-ever concert film, Alive in the Windy City, on DVD and Blu-ray.
