Tonight’s HFS Locals Only Spotlight features Baltimore rock/reggae/hip-hop band Fiction 20 Down. You may have heard them on the HFS Locals Only Spotlight last May, or you may have seen them when they headlined the Downtown Bel Air Music Fest last October…but we’re bringing ’em back around this week to highlight the new lyric video they’ve released that pays tribute to the Baltimore Ravens and their current push to get Ray Lewis a Super Bowl ring as he plans to retire at season’s end.
Lead guitarist Wes Anderson tells us how this idea came about:
“Play On” was first released on our Let It Ride EP in 2010. About nine months ago I showed Jordan (lead vocalist) a riff I was working on and last summer when we started writing our new LP he thought it was a good fit with the lyrics of “Play On”. So we brought it to the studio and fleshed it out with the whole band, and now we have “Play On (Baltimore)” — same lyrics, different music.
It just so happened that song was the first mix we got back from our co-producer Drew Mazurek so we had already released it a few weeks ago as a free download to promote the new album that’s due out this Spring. Once we heard about Ray’s retirement we thought the lyrics of “Play On” fit perfectly so we made the tribute video!
Now that you know the story, go ahead and rock the lyric video below…and if you need this song in your iPod, you can download the song for free.
You can keep up with Fiction 20 Down on their website, on Facebook, and on Twitter…and if you’ve got a local band you’d like us to feature on the HFS Locals Only Spotlight weeknights at 9 PM, here’s how to get your stuff to us.
