Stone Temple Pilots announced today (July 15) they’ll be hitting the road with Chester Bennington this September, supported by fellow rockers Filter.

STP members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz made their live debut with Chester Bennington at KROQ’s Weenie Roast in May (note: KROQ is a station). Since their surprise performance, the band has been busy working on new music for an upcoming EP to be released this fall (no word on exact date). The EP will be self-released on their own label, with distribution via Alternative Distribution Alliance.

“We’re very ambitious about the future of making music,” posted Robert DeLeo to the band’s official website. “The process and intention of creating it is so much more gratifying.”

“We’ve been writing new material and visiting songs from our early albums,” continued DeLeo. “It all feels new again and we’re excited to get out and play a solid set of songs both old and new.”

“Every band has its own kinda vibe,” Chester Bennington told KROQ’s Kevin & Bean after the surprise performance in May. “Stone Temple Pilots has this sexier, more classic rock feel to it. Linkin Park is a very modern, very tech-heavy type of band. I grew up listening to these guys. When this opportunity came up, it was just like a no-brainer.”
