As Broken Bells prepare for the January 14 release of After The Disco, their second full-length, the duo of Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton and [Shins’] James Mercer have debuted the first two in a series of short films set to the band’s upcoming album.

While the first episode, Angels and the Fool, was a psychedelic romp, Hold On For Life (the second in the series released today) begins to fill in pieces of the plot. Director Jacob Gentry described to EW the film as a spiritual sequel to their 2010 film The Ghost Inside. “We wanted this to be more fantastical, psychedelic,” he added. “Like Logan’s Run and Barbarella – but still live in the Broken Bells universe.”

The second installment finds Oliver and Helen, played by Anton Yelchin and Kate Mara, aboard a spacecraft helmed by Burton and Mercer. In a series of flashbacks it’s revealed that Yelchin saved Mara from death. When they attempt to meet up at rather strange dance party their efforts are thwarted by Burton and Mercer who dose Yelchin with a hallucinogen, throwing off his judgment which leads to a rift between him and soon-to-be lover Mara.
