I’m not a TV producer by any means, but I am an avid viewer with minor basic cable TV experience, and would like to offer a few suggestions/observations about the Golden Globes.
First up, NBC should just leave the red carpet coverage to E! News rather than keeping tired Today show anchors in formal wear awake past their bed time. Also the final countdown to show time was clearly audible to everyone and not just Matt Lauer’s ear piece. It was distracting to viewers.

Why not clear a path to the podium for the winners who need to travel from the back to the front of the room? This was the case early in the night with the rambling Jacqueline Bisset- who had more pregnant pauses and F bombs in her speech than content. That sucks up valuable broadcast time causing the music to play almost as soon as the winners arrive at the podium. Then all A- listers like Michael Douglas and Leonardo DiCaprio have time to say is, “Oh no, wrap it up. Ah, okay.”

What seemed like the most fun was the table conversations taking place in & out of commercial breaks. Why not mic up the actors like football players in the huddle so we can eavesdrop on the audio? That’s where the real action is.

And producers: force Woody Allen to show up & accept his Cecil B. DeMille award in person instead of Diane Keaton accepting on his behalf as it were being awarded posthumously. I love her, but as soon as she wrapped up talking about how Woody Allen creates smart roles for women in film, her L’Oreal hair color commercial aired!

Kudos to hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, (who also has a hair color commercial in fairness to Diane Keaton). Amy making out with Bono before accepting her award for “Parks and Recreation” was a show highlight as well as Jared Leto’s win for Best Supporting Actor. The award for Best Joke of the night goes to Tina Fey for “George Clooney would rather float away in space than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.”
