Tonight’s HFS Locals Only Spotlight features Baltimore rock band Sepia. Here’s their story, in their own words:

Sepia draws from a diverse set of influences spanning rock, pop, punk, and folk; creating a compelling mix of acoustic driven power-pop infused with traces of classic 90’s grungy rock. Regardless of labels, their music is distinctly that…Sepia.

Sepia formed in 2006 with little more than an acoustic guitar, a microphone, and a mission. A mission to create music on their terms, independent of what the music industry was dictating. That uncompromising approach to songwriting has helped them hollow out a niche in the Baltimore area music scene; allowing them to headline such premiere venues as Rams Head Live!, The Hard Rock Café, Sonar, The Quarter (formerly Hammerjack’s), and Baltimore Soundstage.

In 2013, Sepia released their first full length debut album, Break My Heart. Their first single “Little Miss Shotgun” saw airplay on local rock radio. The band’s second single “Harmony” also saw welcoming response, with airplay in Baltimore and Ocean City. Shockwave Magazine had this to say about Break My Heart: “Taking almost two and a half years to record, Sepia has put out 12 original songs and you can tell from the sound of it. They took their time to get it right. All in all, I was more than pleased with this disc from Sepia.”. Segments of Break My Heart are being used by Orion Sound Studios as marketing promos for upcoming musical performers, and its tracks receive continuous praise from ReverbNation. Sepia was also recently welcomed for a 45 minute interview, and 4 songs played on BlogTalkRadio’s Social Studmuffic segment, including a musical lead in from Sepia’s “Little Miss Shotgun”.

2014 sees the band beginning work on a follow-up to Break My Heart with plans for a release in the first quarter of 2015. The album will be self-produced and released on Sepia Records. The band continues to play shows in and around the Baltimore area.

Check out their song “Little Miss Shotgun” below, and find out more about them on their website and on their Facebook page…and if you’ve got a local band you’d like us to feature on the HFS Locals Only Spotlight one of these weeknights at 8 PM, here’s how to get your stuff to us.
