The annual Burning Man gathering in the deserts of Nevada has quietly become well known for presenting stellar music during the week-long social experience.

Things took a turn for the awkward at the Robot Heart DJ stage on Wednesday night, however, when controversial Detroit techno DJ Seth Troxler refused to perform after his crew was barred from joining him onstage. According to Pulse Radio, stage organizers were able to fill the vacated time slot with a surprise appearance from Diplo and Skrillex (AKA Jack U), who were already in the area with a show the next night at Camp Question Mark.

While Skrillex fired up some tunes that placated the discriminating crowd, Diplo didn’t fare so well when he cued up DJ Snake and Lil Jon‘s ubiquitous party hit, “Turn Down for What.” The audience responded to the track with a chorus of boos, hastily sending the superstar DJs offstage to be replaced by German techno duo, Tale of Us.
