Artist Turns Popular 80s Music Icons Into Comic Superheroes

By Alyssa Pereira, CBS San Francisco

Back in 2013, Billy the Butcher, an artist based in Curitiba, Brazil, began re-imagining majorly influential punk and post-punk rock artists as classic comic book superheroes.

It was a huge hit, and now, two years later, the artist is following up his project with a few more remixes.

Whereas the last batch of artists included David Bowie as Spiderman, Johnny Cash as Batman, and Axl Rose as Thor, his newest creations animate Siouxsie Sioux, Gary Numan, Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, Robert Smith and more.

“While people still debate on what really makes a pop culture icon,” his site reads, “now it’s time for good old Earth 616 to host a gang of All-New, Almighty Post-Punk Heroes we know and love.”
