Pantera’s Phil Anselmo ‘Not Buying’ Pro-Confederate Flag Arguments

With the use of the Confederate flag returning to being a hotly debated subject of late, bands and artists that use it as part of their iconography or in merchandise are being put on the spot to defend their stance. And though Pantera is no longer an active band, their former frontman Phil Anselmo is the latest to condemn his own previous usage of the symbol that many associate with our country’s history of slavery and racial prejudice.

“It’d be like, Would we be flying the Nazi flag?” Anselmo rhetorically asked Hard Rock Heaven.

I don’t think so,” he answered, “because flags are looked at whether it be nationalism or symbols of something. Truthfully, it’s like… I wish f—ing everyone would get along.”
