How do you make a rock anthem even more epic? Add roughly 1,000 more musicians to the band.

An Italian man and huge Foo Fighters fan named Fabio Zaffagnini had the crazy idea to make that thought a reality recently in a project he called Rockin’ 1000.

Although it wasn’t just for fun.

Zaffagnini actually had a very specific purpose for the event in mind: to attract the attention of Dave Grohl in hopes of bringing the band to Romagna for a concert.

As he wrote in his online diary for the project in May 2014, the Foo Fighters haven’t played in Romagna since 1997. “We have to organize something that kicks ass worldwide and can be seen by Dave Grohl: we will ask one thousand rockers to play one of their songs, all together and at the same time,” he added.

Eventually, after fundraising, advertising, auditioning, and promoting, Zaffagnini and his cohorts found their 1,000 musicians, and a site for the event: Cesena, Italy.

And finally, this week, it all finally came to fruition. With the help of a thousand Italians, Zaffagnini made the song happen.

“A huge, huge miracle. I’ve been working on this f***ing project for more than one year, waking up every morning thinking about how to make it real, and this is all we got: one thousand people,” Zaffagnini said to the crowd after the musicians played ‘Learn To Fly’. ” One thousand rockers that came from all over the nation at their own expenses, and they did it for one song — your song.”

“Our call is to ask you, the Foo Fighters, to come play for us, come and play a concert for all of us in Cesena.”

Watch the video below to see how it all played out.

Grohl and Foo Fighters have yet to respond.
